Pilates Workout – A Special Regime of Exercises

Everyone has heard about a Pilates workout. Most people know that this is a type of exercise and many think it is something like yoga and/or a branch of yoga. However, none of the above descriptions really capture the essence of what exactly a Pilates workout really is. One way of looking at it is that Pilates is a special work out for people who are unable to do vigorous exercises that are necessary to stay healthy and fit today.

Pilates Workout – The Basics

The origin of these exercises is traced to a German, Joseph Pilates who was sick in his childhood as he was suffering from asthma. He wanted to exercise and participate in sports; however his ailment did not allow him to do so.

So, he invented a series of exercises with the help of props and this form of fitness has now been acclaimed world wide. These exercises are not rigorous and can be performed by absolutely anybody without any bar of sex or age.  The main focus of the Pilates workout is to strengthen the muscles of the lower back, abdomen and buttocks.  There are exercises to strengthen each and every muscle in the body. Indeed if the Pilates workout is followed regularly, all the muscles in the body can be cured of many ailments.

The Pilates workout uses slow motion, long and flowing movements. The workout also needs a machine which is normally used to check and learn how to keep your balance while walking and sitting with the correct posture. The posture is crucial to all Pilates workouts.

There is another very important aspect of the Pilates workout, i.e. the control and exercising with the help of breath control. The imposition of good posture is balanced and enhanced by the regulation of breathing.

The prolonged practice of the Pilates workout will result in a very balanced and well worked out body, without really pumping machines at a gym which is normally used for body building. The exercises have also been very beneficial in improving alertness of the mind. Besides they can also be exceptionally calming and have even brought people out of depression.

However, it is imperative to always discuss a new workout or diet with a Doctor as what may be beneficial to one person can actually be harmful to another. Even if it seems easy to do, always consult your physician.
