History of Tai Chi

Thursday 20 November 2008 @ 9:35 am

Summary: The Chen style of Tai Chi was the forerunners of the art, but it was the Yang style that made it in the limelight.

The true history of Tai Chi was never known. The fact that the art is as old as the Chinese heritage itself has the history of Tai Chi shrouded in legend and mystery.

Birth of the Yin and Yang

The wise sage Chang San Feng had a dream one night. In his dream he saw two creatures battling, a crane and a snake. He was so enthralled by the sight for the combatants had fought with so much skill, yet neither one could gain the upper hand. He had this dream every night that he managed to learn the techniques and made the famous 13 postures of Tai Chi. The creatures were then symbolized as the teardrops of the Yin and Yang, symbolizing the infiniteness of the opposite powers.

Massage Oils

Wednesday 19 November 2008 @ 9:49 am

A massage therapy is not complete without its main ingredient, the massage oil.  This is basically the reason that massage oils have been manufactured and continually used in massage treatments throughout history.

Massage oils, on the most basic, are simply substances that promote light and smooth workability.  For centuries, they have been deemed as highly essential for treating forms of soft tissue disorders, so it’s no wonder that they have been used in massage therapy, even today.  Perhaps another reason for the enduring popularity of massage oils is the fact that they highly facilitate the gliding over the receiver’s skin.

Some Tips for Your Own Home Body Detox

Wednesday 19 November 2008 @ 9:43 am

Body detox at certain places can be very expensive, and in fact it can cost up to thousands of dollars depending on the seriousness of the case. And that is why many people choose to do their own way of home body detox, which is far more efficient in their perspective, and cheaper as well. Home body detox is actually similar to what the detox center can offer you; the only difference is the discipline you have to follow in the center compared to the freedom you enjoy in the comfort of your own home.

According to research, your body needs detox at least once in six months if there are too many toxins in your body, or your body pH is too high, or it could lead to all kinds of problems and illnesses. In particular, when the pH is too high, your body becomes prone to diseases. Disease may occur because of your bad eating habits, too much sugar, salt, drugs, and caffeine, lack of working out, contamination of resources, and build up of toxins in the intestines. All these will lead to the breakdown of body cells’ function and eventually after your body has failed trying to fight against it, you will fall sick.

If you are considering venturing out into the world of Pilates, one of the easiest and most economical ways to begin your training is with a Pilates mat class. Pilates mat classes are mainly conducted on the floor, using your own body as the resistance for the exercises. Sometimes resistance bands may be included to intensify the workout, but the exercises are primarily done on a mat without other equipment.

The instructor will focus on the mind/body connection, while using precise, controlled movements to work the core muscles of the body. Class duration of Pilates mat classes usually run about an hour and include 10 to 15 students, so that the instructor can give personalized attention to form and position during exercises. The Top Rated Ballet Leotards

Friday 14 November 2008 @ 9:22 am

Are you a ballet dancer?  Got a passion for ballet?  Or, have you been watching ballet performances for years now?  Then, I’m sure that you know what a ballet leotard is.

As commonly defined, a ballet leotard is a skin tight one-piece garment that is used in ballet trainings and performances to cover the body and torso of the dancer.  Howeverm the purpose of using a ballet leotard is not just restricted there.  Dancers of ballet also use leotards to keep their feet free from hassles.  Since it fits to the skin tightly, it’s no doubt that the ballet leotard allows the dancer’s feet to move freely as unlike long flowing skirts, it does not interfere the dancer’s movements.

According to some researches, the ballet leotard was made famous by the French acrobatic performer named Jules Leotard.   It’s also because of him that the famous song entitled “The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze” was written and composed.  Although the concept of leotard was first developed by Jules Leotard himself, the first use of the name “leotard” only came out in 1886, and that was many years after Leotard’s death.   The garment wasn’t known as “leotard” during his time as he used to call it a maillot, which in French is equal to swimsuit.

Massage Oil and Its Benefits

Wednesday 12 November 2008 @ 9:30 am

Massage oil is one of the most important agents used in every massage session.  Its use can be traced back in the ancient times, as early as 1000 B.C. when Homer, the great Greek poet, mentioned about an oily medium used for massage during that time in one of his writings.  Several reports also show that massage oil existed since the early days as Plato and Socrates even wrote something like “anointing with oil and rubbing to ease pain” on their early writings.  Well, to some degree, this substantial information reveals that massage oil has already showed its healing properties to the early inhabitants of today’s fast-paced world.

Basically, the use of massage oil as a therapeutic tool stems from the notion that when the body is rubbed dry, the friction created will start to generate heat and pain in the body.  The heat and pain that can be felt throughout the body is what will aggravate wind or the so-called “vata” element, which in turn can disturb the gasses present in the body.  So to avoid this friction and eventually disperse heat throughout the body, the massage oil is applied.

How Different Is Herbal Detox from Conventional Detox?

Wednesday 12 November 2008 @ 9:25 am

Experts say that we should detox our body at least once in six months. This process is however takes almost six months in itself. Some people find this process a very time consuming thing, and they seek alternatives that work faster. It is for such people that alternative such as the herbal detox medications were invented. In reality, these herbal detox medications do the same thing as your own detox process; only that it is faster.
Herbal detox usually comes in the form of pills and liquids, and the contents of these medicines or detox agents are not more than anything herbal. This would include herbs like milk thistle, chlorophyll, red clover, and licorice roots.
Just like conventional detox, herbal detox also cleanses important organs in the body such as the kidneys, liver, colon, and others. In the colon, this herbal detox will do the same thing as what colon cleansing or detox at centers do. It basically helps to cleanse the colon, flush away the toxins, parasites and bacteria, and improves digestion, besides strengthening the large intestine muscles.
